Donald Housler — Oils
Don studied painting and drawing at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he received his B.F.A. in 1978. He followed other pursuits - including eleven years in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Flight Officer - before returning to the studio full time in 2005.
Don's work falls naturally into the traditional realistic style of painting yet remains painterly. Shadows, light, textures and shape and the relationships that develop between those elements are what draw him to a subject or scene. His process involves a layering of color washes upon color washes and often the removal of paint to reveal layers of color underneath. Bringing what is visually thrilling to him, to his viewers, is one of his main goals in painting.
Presently living in Cottondale Alabama. He is married to a United Methodist Minister, has two adult children and two adorable grandchildren.
